Napa Valley’s Best Kept Secret
Detach from the perpetually connected world in a rustic setting that provides good, old-fashioned fun for
the entire family. R-Ranch at the Lake is a sort of summer camp for people of all ages, but it’s not just offered in summer, and it’s not just for camping. It’s a family-oriented recreational property on a horse ranch in the scenic beauty of northern California. This Napa Valley fixture has been around since the 1950s, but most locals have never heard of it, which is why it refers to itself as “Napa Valley’s Best Kept Secret.”
The lake referenced in its name is Lake Berryessa, and the ranch includes 317 RV sites and 100 cabins, not to mention the second-largest pool in Napa County, stables for 40 horses, horse trails, hiking trails, fishing, swimming, mountain biking, and a plethora of activities to keep everyone entertained. The ranch is particularly attractive to horse owners and horse lovers.
It offers horse boarding, miles of hiking and horse trails, and 40 ranch horses available for wrangler-led trail rides and solo horse- back riding after passing a basic skills test. Owners are also offered onsite storage for boats, golf carts and camping equipment.
R-Ranch at the Lake is not a time- share, membership, or vacation rental. It’s a 501(c) (7) non-profit recreational club offering termed ownership in a deeded property. Depending on the number of shares purchased, entry costs vary, which include an initiation fee and a maintenance surcharge that goes toward annual upkeep and property operations. Once onboard, members have access to the club and all that the 1,093-acre ranch offers.
For a little dose of modernity, the community lodge located near the playground and pool provides WIFI, satellite TV, a fireplace and air conditioning, as well as an open kitchen, dance floor, kids area, piano, bocce ball, basketball court, volleyball, tennis court, and baseball field. Members have free access to all these amenities and all that the outdoors has to offer and can choose to enjoy the property in their RVs or in clean, comfortable cabins.
To keep the ranch operations running smoothly and to maintain its non-profit status, there are some stipulations on long term stays over thirty days, and members and immediate family members are welcome, as are guests, so long as the owners are present. R-Ranch at the Lake offers a recreational respite for anyone looking for a beautiful, scenic location to enjoy boating, hiking, riding horses, swimming, biking, or to simply settle into a place to “call home” while enjoying the splendor of the great outdoors.
