Handel’s Messiah
Following a COVID-related hiatus of two and a half years, Sing Napa Valley has returned to regular rehearsals and looks forward to presenting the first part of Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, December 18 at 7 pm in the acoustically brilliant sanctuary of Napa Methodist Church located at 625 Randolph Street in downtown Napa. This performance features soloists, Christina Howell, soprano; Silvie Jensen, alto; Chester Pidduck, tenor; and Harlan Hays, bass; with Tom Flesher at the church’s pipe organ. Complimentary refreshments will be served following the performance.
The program of solos and choruses includes For unto Us a Child Is Born, the Hallelujah Chorus, and Worthy Is the Lamb/Amen and more. Messiah is an English-language oratorio composed between August 22 and September 14, 1741 and was first performed in an outdoor venue in Dublin. It was received with huge acclaim, with the Dublin Journal proclaiming that “Messiah was allowed by the greatest Judges to be the finest Composition of Musick that ever was heard.”
Tickets for the Napa performance are $30 per person and are available online at www.singnapavalley.org or may be obtained using a credit card or debit card by calling 707-255-4662, or by mailing a check to Sing Napa Valley, PO Box 2774, Napa, CA 94558. Tickets will also be available at the venue the evening of the concert. Additional information may be obtained by calling 707-255-4662.
