A Treasure to be Shared, Fantesca Estate & Winery
Start anywhere. Take any moment from this winery’s story and it will stand for a whole. Take the moment college sweethearts turned Fortune 100 Executives decided to forgo the family business of Best Buy to start their own journey in Napa Valley, because they believed that great wine isn’t a trophy to collect, but a treasure to be shared with family and loved ones.
Take any moment over the past 15 years of operation, for example, while proprietors of Fantesca Estate & Winery, Susan & Duane Hoff, invested their time and treasure in resources, land and people to craft some of the best wines in Napa Valley. All of these moments stand for a whole, because they’ve taken every moment to perfect their craft.
When it comes to investing in talent, Susan and Duane have pushed the status quo. World-renowned winemaker Heidi Barrett, winery sommelier and director DLynn Proctor, and acclaimed vineyard manager Jim Barbour make up the front lines of a trio that would rival the ’92 Dream Team—coincidentally, also representing the vintage of Heidi Barrett’s Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon that would later be auctioned off as the most expensive bottle of wine ever acquired at $500,000.
“I’ve always resonated with the quote, ‘If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room,’” says Proprietress Susan Hoff, who served as the primary communications strategist with Best Buy for 25 years.
“And that’s driven us to invest in the people and resources that we believe will allow Fantesca to craft the best wines in the world.”
The quest for perfection by Susan and Duane Hoff has meant that producing only 3,500 cases annually ensures every bottle is of the highest quality. It also means that allocation will soon be the only form of acquiring Fantesca’s wine, as appointments at the intimate Spring Mountain winery are becoming increasingly difficult to come by given the family’s rocket-like success.
From vine to glass, Heidi Barrett’s mastery of her craft shines through each vintage, showcasing the beauty of Napa Valley. The winery’s offering, consisting of a Russian River Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, All Great ThingsTM Red Blend, and Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, are as elegant as they are rare, and truly a treasure to be shared.
